A Global and Historical Perspective

In Hindu tradition, the Ajna chakra is the sixth energy center in the subtle body, located between the eyebrows. It governs perception beyond ordinary sight—intuition, foresight, and spiritual wisdom. Yogic texts describe it as a lotus with two petals, each representing the dual forces of masculine and feminine energy, and the union between logic and intuition.

Ancient Egypt revered the Eye of Horus as a symbol of protection, royal power, and good health. Esoterically, this eye was a representation of spiritual clarity and gnosis. Egyptian initiates and priests were taught to activate this inner sight through rigorous training, meditation, and the ingestion of sacred elixirs thought to awaken deeper layers of the brain.

In Taoist alchemy, the concept of the "Heavenly Eye" (天眼) appears in teachings about energy channels and spirit seeing. Here, it represents the fusion of the shen (spirit), qi (life force), and jing (essence) into an internal light that reveals the truth beyond the veil of illusion.
