“Unite the fixed and the volatile.”
(The sacred marriage within)
You have learned to separate.
You can feel the gross and the subtle as two distinct layers.
You are no longer completely entangled in reaction.
Awareness stands apart.
Now comes a teaching that looks contradictory:
After separation — union.
But this is not the old unconscious fusion.
This is conscious marriage.
The alchemists call it the union of:
the King and the Queen
sulphur and mercury
the fixed and the volatile
Fixed is what is stable, grounded, embodied.
Volatile is what rises, flows, moves, transforms.
Earlier in life, these two were in conflict.
If you were too fixed, you became rigid, serious, heavy.
If you were too volatile, you became scattered, unstable, dreamy.
Now something new becomes possible:
Stability infused with aliveness.
Movement rooted in stillness.
Watch carefully.
When you sit silently and awareness is present, there is a still center.
That is the fixed.
But within that stillness, thoughts move, sensations move, breath moves.
That movement is the volatile.
Before awakening, movement drags the center.
Now the center remains — and movement dances around it.
This is union.
Not suppression of movement.
Not escape into stillness.
Both together.
Imagine a tree.
Its roots are deep in the earth — fixed.
Its branches move with the wind — volatile.
If it had only roots, it would never touch the sky.
If it had only branches, it would fall.
True balance is not choosing one — it is allowing both.
In your inner life this means:
You remain centered in awareness — but you participate fully in life.
You speak, love, work, create — yet something inside is unmoving.
You feel emotions — but they do not overthrow you.
You think — but thinking does not define you.
The volatile energy is no longer chaotic.
The fixed awareness is no longer rigid.
They cooperate.
This cooperation is the sacred marriage.
The alchemists describe it as the birth of the androgynous being — the rebis.
This symbol means:
The opposites are no longer enemies.
Your masculine and feminine energies reconcile.
Your reason and intuition support each other.
Your strength and softness coexist.
And when this happens, a new quality appears:
Wholeness.
Before, you were either serious or playful.
Either disciplined or spontaneous.
Either silent or expressive.
Now you can be both.
Silence inside — expression outside.
Stillness inside — movement outside.
This is maturity.
The immature mind wants purity in one direction.
The awakened being allows totality.
Watch how this union works in meditation.
There is deep silence — and within it, thoughts arise like birds crossing the sky.
But you do not chase them.
Silence remains untouched.
At the same time, you are not rejecting them.
Movement and stillness coexist.
This coexistence generates a new energy.
The alchemists say from this marriage the philosophical child is conceived.
What is this child?
It is a new way of being.
Not the old ego.
Not pure emptiness.
But a luminous individuality rooted in the universal.
You become uniquely yourself — without being separate.
You act in the world — without losing your center.
You are stable — without becoming rigid.
You are alive — without becoming restless.
This is why union comes after separation.
If you try to unite opposites before clarity, you only create confusion.
But when awareness is strong, union becomes harmony.
So the meditation for this stage is subtle:
When you are active, remain centered.
When you are silent, allow life to move.
Do not escape the world to preserve stillness.
Do not lose stillness in the world.
Let both exist.
You will feel a new integration forming.
Your body feels more grounded.
Your energy feels more fluid.
Your presence feels both calm and vibrant.
This is the inner wedding.
And from this union, transformation accelerates — because now nothing in you is divided.
Energy no longer leaks through conflict.
It circulates.
Like a perfect current flowing through a complete circuit.
The fixed gives direction.
The volatile gives life.
Together they create power without aggression, softness without weakness, intelligence without coldness.
You begin to move through life like a quiet flame — steady, yet alive.
This is the stage where spirituality stops being an escape and becomes embodiment.
You are no longer trying to transcend the human.
You are illuminating it.
And when the marriage becomes stable, something astonishing happens:
Your presence itself begins to transform others — not by teaching, not by effort, but by the harmony you radiate.
Because union is contagious.
People feel the coherence in you.
And coherence is rare.
So remain attentive to this sacred balance.
Too much fixity — soften.
Too much volatility — center.
Let awareness be the axis around which all movement turns.
Then the inner King and Queen are reconciled.
And the child of light begins to grow silently in the depth of your being.
That child is the beginning of the Stone.
